REDUCING COGNITIVE LOAD

The Department of Labor requested updates to a series of existing courses. As part of the design refresh, I leveraged a narrator and a persona for a claims examiner, who set the stage for each course. Repeating this format reduced the cognitive load and created consistency between topics for the learners.

PERSONAS IN COURSES

The Department of Labor course updates presented the opportunity to develop personas to illustrate how each role contributes to the process and their activities within it. These short videos introduce Becky and Shawn and how they partner in claim reviews. Musical introductions were added for these versions.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION THROUGH SCENARIOS

The Department of Labor requested scenario-based knowledge checks for its Survivorship benefits course. Becky, our Claims Examiner (CE) persona, reviews information from actual cases. Then, learners use that information, with the final whiteboard image (with alt-text) as a reference, to select how the award benefits should be dispersed. The learners receive detailed feedback after submitting their responses in the SL interaction.
